March 9, marks a historic moment for domestic workers in Washington.

Today, March 9 marks a historic moment.
The Statewide Domestic Workers Bill of Rights (HB 2355) has officially been signed into law in Washington State. This landmark legislation finally ends the long-standing exclusion of domestic workers from essential labor protections.
We celebrate this powerful milestone alongside the domestic workers, advocates, and community leaders who have organized for years to make this moment possible.
For decades; nannies, caregivers, house cleaners, and gardeners have been excluded from the same rights and protections that other workers rely on. Today, that changes.
This legislation secures minimum wage protections, safeguards against retaliation and discrimination, protects workers’ right to keep their personal documents, establishes written agreements, and provides meaningful tools for enforcement.

Thank you to our coalition partners and to you, our supporters, for standing with us throughout the years in this movement.
With Washington becoming the 13th state in the nation to pass a Domestic Worker Bill of Rights, this moment reflects the power of collective advocacy and the leadership of domestic workers who have long called for dignity, safety, and respect in their workplaces.
Our work does not stop here. We will continue to educate, organize, and advocate to ensure these rights are upheld and that domestic workers across our state can thrive.
Together, we are building lasting and meaningful change in our community. 🦋
