Join Us for a Carne Asada Fundraiser & FIFA World Cup Final Watch Celebration!

Sunday, July 19 ⚽ 11 AM - 3PM

Fútbol is the heartbeat of the world. It speaks without language—through laughter, cheers, and shared passion. It exists without borders. Fútbol does not belong to the powerful; all it needs is a ball and a community. It belongs to the streets, to our cultures, and to the people.

This summer, fútbol belongs to Seattle as our city prepares to host the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup. We are excited to share the joy and energy of the tournament with our communities, especially immigrant and Latino communities, who are the backbone of fútbol culture in the United States. For us, fútbol is deeply rooted in our cultures and provides a powerful connection to our home countries.

As Seattle prepares to host six World Cup matches, King County is expected to welcome approximately 750,000 visitors. This is equivalent to combining the populations of Tacoma, Spokane, Vancouver, and Renton into one. Supporting this many visitors will require a massive regional effort. These visitors are also projected to generate $650 million in direct spending and more than $100 million in state and local tax revenue.

Without workers, there is no game.

This enormous undertaking is only possible because workers are preparing to absorb the impacts across hotels, hospitality, restaurants and food service, transportation, retail, and many other sectors where immigrant workers make up a significant portion of the workforce. Many are facing the difficult reality of working throughout the World Cup while also living with the fear of increased federal enforcement and a heightened ICE presence.

No city should have to trade community celebration for increased ICE enforcement in order to host the World Cup.

Casa Latina is preparing for the influx of visitors while also preparing members and the broader community by actively informing them of their rights so they are ready if they encounter federal agents. We are also calling for fair play for workers: access to breaks, overtime pay, tips, and fair wages regardless of immigration status throughout the World Cup period.

We stand in solidarity with allies across the nation to KEEP ICE OUT OF THE CUP! We also stand with UNITE HERE Local 8 in its efforts to ensure safe working conditions and fair treatment for workers during the tournament.

Everyone has a role to play in creating safety for immigrant fans and workers by keeping ICE out of the Cup in Seattle. You can:

1. Learn about your rights through the ACLU of Washington and share Know Your Rights cards.

2. Attend local trainings hosted by Working Washington and the City of Seattle.

3. Support Casa Latina workers.
